Holter Monitoring gives doctors a constant reading of your heart rate and rhythm over a 24-hour period (or longer). You are asked to keep a diary of any chest pain or symptoms of irregular heartbeat (called arrhythmia) while hooked up to the monitor.
Your doctor can then look at the time when you noticed your symptoms and assess your daily activity during those times to get an idea about the nature of your heart problem.
